The Oscars: Aftermath

Unsurprisingly, Jake's Oscar predictions were (purposely?) terrible. Overall, the Oscars were very predictable this year. I correctly (although without documentation) predicted the big awards (actor, supporting actor, actress, supporting actress, picture, director), as well as several smaller ones. However, amid the obvious choices, there were a few objectionable choices, and several big mistakes.

Favorites:

Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire. Duh.

Best Supporting Actor: Ledger won, and deserved to win. I don't care if he's alive or dead, that is an iconic performance that elevated that movie from average to very good and made everyone forget how inexplicably bad Christian Bale('s voice) was.

Director: Danny Boyle might be my favorite director working right now, or at least my favorite whose last name isn't Coen. I've been on his side for years, and actually first noticed Slumdog because of his involvement. This guy doesn't make duds (The Beach doesn't exist), and he gets absolutely excellent results out of everyone he works with. Heck, Cillian Murphy and Ewan MacGregor owe their careers to this guy.

Documentary: 100% on rotten tomatoes. You know how often that happens? NEVER. That's how often that happens. Also, the guy who actually was on the wire had the best acceptance ever.

*Groans*

Best Foreign Film: Really? Really, Acadamy? The Class is tied for the FIFTH HIGHEST score ever to grace metacritic, with a 94/100. You know what other movie has a 94? Pulp Fiction. Likewise, Waltz With Bashir, the Golden Globe winner, got robbed. Apparantly drawing attention to serious, totally unaddressed issues (Israeli war attrocities) is no good. Whatever.

Best Sound Editing: You know what the Dark Knight sound editors did? Lowered the pitch of Christian Bale's voice. Done. No Oscar. I would've given them a Razzy before an Oscar. Totally insulting.

The Million Little Awards Benjamin Button Won: Look, this movie bored a huge number of people. I feel like it's going to end up like Memoirs of a Geisha, which wasn't all that well respected, but won like six Oscars for make up and editing.

Not as bad as it could've been, but I feel terrible for France and Israel. You both deserved foreign film!

HEY! I got best picture and best short live action film! The rest were completely random! Actually, best picture was the only one that wasn't completely random.
