The best movies of the decade according to Jake

A few months ago Jeneen and I made a list of all the movies that were good over this past decade. Now I have this list of good movies and have nothing to do with it. I've decided to formulate it into a list because nobody doesn't like lists.

1. Lord of the Rings (all of them count as one super long movie)

2. Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind

3. District 9

4. Pan's Labyrinth

5. Children of Men

6. Adaptation

7. Tropic Thunder

8. No Country for Old Men

9. Sideways

10. There Will Be Blood

11. Good Night and Good Luck
12. The Hangover
13. Thank You for Smoking
14. V for Vendetta
15. Wall-E
16. Milk
17. Up
18. Doubt
19. Frost/Nixon
20. Science of Sleep
21. Little Miss Sunshine

28. Snatch
29. Big Fish

Daybreakers trailer is crazy confusing.

I like dystopian future movies. You know, the human race is in danger, people fighting for their life when its obvious they won't survive. Those movies are great. I thought this movie was one of those. The first 23 seconds of this trailer make it look like one of those. But at second 24 some creepy guy screams "TO FARM THEM FOR BLOOD!" WHAT?! Way to flip the script television commercial, I have just lost all interest in this movie.

The Girlfriend Experience is somewhere between mediocre and ok.

Last night I was hanging out with my friends and one of them said "Let's watch a movie!" She also said "I'm a dinosaur! RAWR!" but that is beside the point. I said we should watch The Girlfriend Experience because it looked really good, instead we watched "The Best of Chris Farley." But later I was alone and I decided to watch The Girlfriend Experience. The movie is about Sasha Grey, who is a real life porn star, as a high-class call girl. It was a rather boring movie. I have never been so void of emotion while watching a movie. That made me not like it very much. None of the characters seemed to be very developed and there was no central problem. The film is set in 2008, right before the presidential election, so there are many references to the debates and how shitty the economy is. In fact, when Sasha Grey isn't on screen, these four guys are talking about the shit economy on some plane. The mentions of the economy and election seem very forced. At one point, Sasha Grey's boyfriend says "If I hear maverick one more time..." ugh. I thought this would be a good movie because it was directed by Steven Soderbergh, who also mad "sex, lies and videotape" which was great and also dealt very much with sex. Unfortunately, it wasn't. I just sat on the couch, staring at the screen waiting for something to happen. With about 20 minutes left Sasha Grey's character and her boyfriend get in an argument and I feel like I should care that their relationship is strained, but I don't. I don't care about her, or her boyfriend, or any of her clients. That was the one reason this movie wasn't as good as it could have been, or so I thought. Then I realized, maybe I'm supposed to feel this way. Maybe my disinterest in all of these characters is what I should be feeling because that's how this call girl feels about her clients. It wasn't necessarily a bad movie. It reminded me of Where the Wild Things are, its aesthetically pleasing, but nothing major ever really happens.
